APSI Strengthens Industry Presence at Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit 2024

APSI reinforced its role in the global seafood industry by participating in the Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit (TSSS) on October 8–10, 2024. The event, recognized as one of Japan’s premier platforms for discussions on responsible fisheries and market trends, gathered key stakeholders from across the world, including industry leaders, policymakers, and seafood buyers.

APSI’s delegation, comprising representatives from Indonesia’s purse seine sector, engaged in discussions with international buyers, certification bodies, and other stakeholders. Their participation highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to responsible fishing practices and the importance of the purse seine industry in supporting coastal communities, particularly in Bitung.

During the summit, APSI representatives emphasized the challenges and opportunities within Indonesia’s tuna industry. showcasing the ongoing Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) in Bitung, which aims to enhance operational standards and market access for local fishers.

APSI shared insights into the evolving landscape of the Indonesian purse seine sector and the steps taken to align with global seafood procurement standards. The delegation also used this opportunity to foster strategic partnerships that can strengthen the industry’s market positioning.

“The Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit is an important avenue for APSI to demonstrate the progress made by the Indonesian purse seine industry. We want to ensure that international buyers recognize the value of our fisheries and the livelihoods they support,” said Ivonne Peleh, a representative of the APSI delegation at TSSS.

As APSI continues to collaborate with international partners, including the Walton Family Foundation and the Indonesia Tuna Consortium, its participation in TSSS 2024 underscores the association’s efforts to enhance industry standards and expand global market reach. With a focus on responsible fisheries and economic resilience, APSI remains committed to advocating for the interests of Indonesia’s purse seine sector on the world stage.
